Jewellery Valuations
A professional jewellery valuation provides an accurate and independent assessment of your jewellery’s value. Whether required for insurance, probate, resale, or personal knowledge, our valuations are carried out with care, expertise, and attention to detail.
Each piece is carefully examined by a qualified gemmologist to assess materials, craftsmanship, condition, and current market factors. You’ll receive a clear, detailed valuation report that is suitable for insurance purposes.
Loose Gemstones
Synthetic and artificially treated gemstones are passing through the trade undetected. A synthetic gemstone has the same chemical composition as the natural stone and is optically and physically the same. A qualified gemmologist is the only person who can distinguish between the two by studying the characteristics of the gemstone.
For a positive identification which confirms the type of stone (no grading) the cost is R400 (ex VAT) per stone.

Gemstone Identification
Gemstone identifications and certifications are for colourless stones – diamonds, laboratory grown diamonds, moissanites and laboratory grown moissanites.
The report will contain the following information: Reference number, gemstone name, weight, cut / shape, dimensions, colour description, clarity grade.
The price for this service is dependant on the size of the stone and whether it is natural or synthetic – starting price is R280 (ex VAT).
Coloured Stone Grading
For all coloured stones that are fully assessed and graded at the laboratory we do a report. You can choose between a mini report or a passport report.
A mini report is an abridged version and contains the following information: Reference number, gemstone, weight, cut / shape, dimensions, colour description, colour, clarity, finish, final grade.
A passport report is a full report with all the details, it contains the following information: Reference number, gemstone species and variety, weight, cut / shape, dimensions, colour description, colour grade, tone, clarity grade, brilliance, finish, final grade and an image.
We use the ICSL coloured stone grading system which has proved itself to be the most efficient and user-friendly coloured stone grading system since 1982. Many large laboratories around the world use this system. It is the most consistent system I have ever come across. Ian Campbell who developed the system introduced the FINAL GRADE which relates directly to price. For more information on this system click below.
Rough Gemstone Assessment
The grading and valuing of rough gemstones takes knowledge and experience.
The price for this service is R800 (ex VAT) per stone or R1800 per hour (ex VAT) for parcels of stones.

The filter consists of three filters. Two polaroids and one coloured filter. The tanzanite when viewed under tungsten lighting through the one polaroid you will see a bluish colour and through the other filter a reddish violet colour. This is characteristic of tanzanite. Through the coloured filter, tanzanite will appear red. It is important to get the two different colours and the red colour for it to pass as tanzanite.
Get your Tanzanite Filter for only R650. This will assist in separating all the imitations from tanzanite, rough or cut.

Forensic Analysis (report)
The client may want to know why a stone broke or looks different. This is a scientific study and I believe only two of us offer this service in South Africa.
